Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) outside of Nome near Solomon, Alaska.
One evening after midnight while returning to our accommodations we decided to check an area where we had previously seen a bear. We spotted this bear about 100 yards from the road and began to photograph it. While photographing it made a realatively rapid approach toward us. When it got to close we got into the vehicle and started the engine. At that point the bear decided to turn and run. As it ran a bear about 50 yards away stood up, looked at us and joined the other bear, running away. This photo was taken at about 12:30 AM.
